I moved last week, and was reminded how much of a pain in the ass moving always is.

Put things in boxes, move boxes from location one to location two, and take everything out of boxes. It always takes longer than you think it will, and you spend time running inside and outside and inside and outside, and the very last thing you want is to be worrying about what to wear.

It’s the beginnings of fall weather here in NYC, and I knew that we probably wouldn’t finish until after dark, so I wanted something to wear that could work both inside, and outside, while it was sunny, and also after the sun went down and it started getting cold. So, I went with a variation on the outfit I basically lived in on my trip to Maine in August.

I wore a black camisole, with black jeans, and my red & black plaid shirt-dress. For these photos I styled it with my go-to Dr. Martens’, and a long necklace. But for the actual move I opted for a shorter necklace, and sneakers for optimal headless-chicken-running-around.

I knew I wanted something that would easily let me run around, lifting and moving things, plus something that had a couple layers for the “standing around outside after the sun went down” bits of the day. So the part of this look that made it particularly moving-day friendly was the dress, which worked equally well open for during the day and closed when it got colder.

Luckily the move went smoothly in a true “hurry up and wait” sort of day, the look worked as intended, and the move was a successful.

That was about a week ago, and so this past week has been all about unpacking, sorting, finding places for everything, etc. I just got the majority of my closet unpacked, and just in time for the Fall 10×10 Wardrobe Challenge!! I had a ton of fun with this summer’s 10×10 wardrobe challenge, so I’m super excited to do it again!
